Located in Building 212 (21 Flushing Avenue), part of the Navy Yard’s Admirals Row development, the 74,000-square-foot supermarket will feature a prepared foods department, organic products, fresh seafood delivered daily, and 300 varieties of imported and domestic cheese. A bar located on the second-floor mezzanine will serve food, wine, beer, and spirits.

Wegmans Brooklyn began recruiting for the new location earlier this year and anticipates employing approximately 500 employees—including 150 full-time staff members—with an emphasis on hiring locally. Available full-time positions include: prep cook, line cook, lead cook, and full-time customer service positions.

Part-time positions are also available in the restaurant foods, sushi, pizza, bakery, produce, deli, and cheese departments. Part-time day and overnight grocery positions are also available.

“Although the opening is still several months away, new employees begin in-depth training soon after they’re hired so that they’re knowledgeable and fully prepared to deliver incredible customer service,” Store Manager Kevin Cuff said in a release announcing the opening. “Wegmans has a long-standing reputation as an exceptional employer, with tremendous opportunity for career growth and development.”

Founded in 1916, Wegmans currently operates 99 stores throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts, employing more than 48,000 people. Along with the forthcoming Brooklyn store, Wegmans will open new locations in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina later this year.
