Wednesday Crime Blotter: Slashings, Shootings, Anti-Chinese Graffiti & More

BROWNSVILLE – Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a seemingly random slashing that took place in Brownsville on Monday.

The attack happened around 11:30 pm on Monday, August 6, near Linden Boulevard and Rockaway Parkway, said police, when the suspect approached a 44-year old woman from behind and slashed her face with an unknown object.

The suspect fled on foot westbound down Linden Boulevard. Surveillance photos of the suspect from prior to the incident can be seen below:

EAST FLATBUSH – While crowds were protesting outside the New Apple Nail Salon at Nostrand and Martense, one member of the crowd took things too far—hitting a police officer with a thrown beer bottle.

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm on Monday, August 6, said police. A beer bottle was thrown from inside of the crowd, which police say numbered around 50 people, and struck an officer in the head, giving him a contusion.

BROWNSVILLE – After a 17-year old boy was robbed in Brownsville earlier this week, police have released video of a suspect wanted in connection with the crime.

The victim was walking in the area of Lott Avenue and East 98th Street on Monday, August 6, around 1:30 pm, said police. The suspect approached the victim and demanded his property and the boy complied, turning over a cell phone and headphones.

The robber fled on foot and the victim was uninjured as a result of the encounter. Surveillance video of the suspect can be seen below:

BENSONHURST – Police have released surveillance video of the individual that sprayed anti-Chinese graffiti on the side of the Green Food Supermarket at 20th Avenue and 85th Street in Bensonhurst over the weekend.

The incident, which elicited a strong response and condemnation from local politicians, occurred on Saturday, August 4, around 2:30 am, said police. It is being investigated as a hate crime.

EAST NEW YORK – Police are looking for the men who knocked a victim unconscious before robbing him in front of a Pitkin Avenue home last week.

At 2:30 am on Wednesday, August 1, two unidentified men approached a 25-year old man outside 2652 Pitkin Avenue, said police. One of the two struck the victim on the head with stick, then stole his cell phone and credit cards.

The victim fell unconscious and was taken to Brookdale Hospital by EMS. The suspects fled on foot, but surveillance video of one of the two can be seen below:

SHEEPSHEAD BAY – At the end of July, two men approached a 28-year old outside a Dollar Tree store in Sheepshead Bay and shot the victim once in the leg.

The shooting took place around 10:20 pm on Saturday, July 28, said police, outside 2114 Coyle Street, near Avenue U. The 28-year old victim was hit once in his left leg. EMS transported him to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
