Twelve Brooklyn Spots Included on Eater’s Essential 38 Restaurant List
Eater’s quarterly list included 12 Brooklyn spots this summer among 38 best across the city. They included some old favorites, as well as new neighborhood standouts. This quarter two Brooklyn spots are among the six new additions on the list.
Those two include Park Slope fast-classic Haenyeo, which has wowed critics and locals alike with its innovative and delicious Korean foods. The mackerel here reminded us why we love mackerel, and we haven’t had as much fun as we had pulling the cheese from the rice cake fundido in a while.
Prospect Heights’ MeMe’s Diner was also welcomed to the list, serving fun takes on classics like chicken fingers served with chipotle peach bbq, mushroom scotch eggs, and savory funnel cakes.
Peter Luger Steak House made the list, by no surprise, as they continue to wow crowds even after becoming a tourist destination. We agree with Eater that he porterhouse here is the way to go- but we can’t leave without bacon, creamed spinach, and tomato and onions.
Billy Durney’s Hometown Barbecue remained on this quarter’s list, with the opening of his latest, Red Hook Tavern, already drawing buzz on social media. We feel like we speak for everyone when we say we’re excited to see what this latest venture is like.
Other long-time burrough favorites like Olmsted, Marlow & Sons, and La Vara maintained their status in the big leagues of Brooklyn dining as well.
Our number one cheap eats spot, Peppa’s, also was included in the summer round-up and rightfully so. In the summer, the lines out the door of the PLG jerk chicken spot only grow longer, and we only crave that sauce more.
Eater is right to say that Gowanus has a rare gem in Claro, writing that “Oaxacan food has yet to become ubiquitous in NYC”. We agree, but we’re also excited about new Park Slope Oaxacan spot Casa Azul, and hope that the brilliance of Claro continues to spread.
Vietnamese restaurant Di an Di, Taiwanese Win Son, and pizzeria Ops also continued their reign on this quarter’s list.
To make room, Brooklyn European restaurant Chez Ma Tante left the list, but couldn’t possibly leave our hearts.
