Funded by Council Member Mathieu Eugene, the $750,000 project was first presented to Community Board 14 in 2014 and broke ground in April 2018. The adult fitness area features 12 different types of fitness equipment for users of all abilities as well as custom concrete “step-up” blocks and an open area for group classes.

The project also includes other improvements to the Parade Ground section of the park including the installation of a new misting line along the artificial turf soccer fields. Set on timers, the misting line will provide a cooling mist at peak hours when the fields are busiest. Renovations also include fixing drainage problems at Field 7, reconstructing the volleyball court, planting shade trees, and adding new seating.

In 2018, Council Member Eugene also committed $500,000 of District 40 participatory budget funding to Flatbush Fit!, a project that will improve the community space at the southwest corner of the Parade Ground and add more fitness amenities. The Prospect Park Alliance is currently in the design phase of this project which is estimated to be completed in Spring 2021.
