Democratic Primary – Remember To Vote Tomorrow For Judges And District 45

It seems we are having an election just about every month these days – this will be the 3rd this year.  But this one matters –  as Democratic Primary determines who will be on the ballots and likely win in our heavily Democrat-dominated city come November.

The big election is for Judges. We have 4 candidates for Civil Court to represent most of Brooklyn around Prospect Park (Municipal District 6) – so if you live in  Park Slope, Crown Heights, Kensington, Flatbush,  Midwood, Prospect Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Prospect Park South, and Ditmas Park and are a Democrat, this one is for you.

There are four candidates vying for the seat. You can read our interviews with  Chinyelu Udoh,  Caroline Cohen, Alice Nicholson, and Tehilah Berman.

There is also a Surrogate Court position open which there are three candidates –  Elena Barron, Margarita López Torres and candidate Meredith Jones. While we did not get a chance to interview them, we encourage you to read coverage by The New York Daily News , Gotham Gazette and The New York Times.

Local Council elections  –  District 45

Yes, there was a special election just in May, but newly elected Councilwoman Farah Louis is facing a serious and fierce candidate in Monique Chandler-Waterman who lost with 30% to Louis 40% of the vote after Orthodox community in the district voted for her in the special election. This time around, Chandler-Waterman says there’s allegedly more to how these votes were obtained.  If you are in District 45 and a registered Democrat, now is your time to have a say.

You can check to see if you’re registered to vote here. You can only vote at your designated polling place between 6 am and 9 pm – do check before heading out as they change unexpectedly – NYC poll site locator.
