Seven New Restaurants To Try In Brooklyn: Bowls, Baked Goods, Vegan Bites & More
Lots of new restaurants have recently opened in the borough or will be coming our way soon.
Check out our list below of seven newcomers in Fort Greene, Park Slope, DUMBO, Clinton Hill, and Bushwick. Let us know if you’ve tried any of the eateries or if we’ve missed anyplace new.
Bolivian Llama Party, Gotham Market at the Ashland, 590 Fulton Street (at Ashland Place), Fort Greene
Following the departure of four of the six original food vendors at Gotham Market, it was recently announced that this popular Bolivian restaurant will be taking over one of the vacant spots later this month, Eater reports.
Launched in 2012 by Alex, Patrick, and David Oropeza, the eatery serves Bolivian food with a modern twist, including Salteñas (baked empanadas) and Cholas (pork or brisket sandwiches). Fulton Hall, a new 20-tap craft beer hall, and a seventh outpost of Hungry Ghost will join BLP at Gotham Market in April, according to Eater.
Bowl & Blade, 169 5th Avenue (between Lincoln & Berkeley Place), Park Slope
The founder of the Michelin-starred Indian restaurant, Junoon, is behind this new eatery serving made-to-order bowls in a variety of styles including Korean, Peruvian, Greek, and Hawaiian, Eater reports. The new spot takes over the former Brooklyn Crepe & Juice Bar space. Opening April 1.
Butler Bake Shop & Espresso Bar, 60 Water Street (between Dock & Main Street), DUMBO
The Williamsburg shop serving up sweet and savory baked goods from the Michelin-starred pastry chef, Ryan Butler, is opening up a storefront in DUMBO this summer, according to Brooklyn Bridge Parents. The 1,200-square-foot space will offer freshly prepared meals, treats, and coffee. The DUMBO location will also host baking classes.
Gordon Savory, 995a Fulton Street (between St. James & Cambridge Place), Clinton Hill
Last December, Anna Gordon, the pastry chef and owner of The Good Batch (936 Fulton), launched this sandwich and retail shop to offer neighbors fresh baked breads and savory, veggie-forward items including prepared foods, soups, and salads. The retail shop offers artisan cheese from Saxelby Cheesemongers, gourmet pantry items, and craft beers.
Ojalá, 413 Myrtle Avenue (between Vanderbilt & Clinton Avenue), Clinton Hill
This new restaurant debuted in February and serves a modern interpretation of authentic Mexican cuisine (Empanadas filled with pan-seared catfish, baby back ribs brushed with chile de árbol) alongside an array of tequila and mezcal drinks concocted by Mexican mixologists, according to the eatery’s website. The cozy space is decorated in amber and coral hues and vibrant artwork.
Seamore’s, 66 Water Street (between Dock & Main Street), DUMBO
Michael Chernow, owner of The Meatball Shop, opened the first Brooklyn location of his popular seafood restaurant last weekend in a 3,100-square-foot venue in DUMBO. Seamore’s new outpost features its trademark sustainable seafood menu, a full bar, as well as special menu items only available at the Brooklyn location, including the Dumbo Gumbo Tostada, a Sustainable Seafood Paella for Two, and a dedicated Poké menu.
Sol Sips, 203 Wilson Avenue (between Stockholm & Stanhope Street), Bushwick
After serving as a three-month (December-March) pop-up in the former Mille’s Cuban Cafe space, this vegan café has been offered the storefront permanently and will relaunch on April 5. The 21-year-old Brooklyn-based entrepreneur, Francesca “Sol” Chaney, partnered with her nutritionist mother, Emeli Chaney, in creating the “plant-based vegan bites” (chickpea omelette, avocado and mushroom melt) and locally-sourced organic beverages served at the shop. They have started a GoFundMe campaign to help them purchase the space and renovate it.
