Residents Have One More Day to Submit Comments on $20 Million Project for Sheepshead Bay Courts Sewer System

Repairs to the Sheepshead Bay Court houses damaged in Hurricane Sandy have been a long time coming (Paul Stremple/BKLYNER)

SHEEPSHEAD BAY – Friday, November 3, is the last opportunity for residents to submit comments on the proposed grant allocating $20 million for a new Sheepshead Bay Courts Sewer and Water Infrastructure program.

The courts were flooded during Hurricane Sandy five years ago, and it’s taken years for repairs to get underway through the Built It Back program.

Though the Courts have relied on a private sewage system that services their homes—which are build five feet below street level—this project, using Community Block Development Grant funds, would install a new sewer and water management system, hopefully preventing another breakdown after a hurricane or natural disaster.

Mayor De Blasio promised the new sewer system—and all other repairs—would be completed by the spring (Paul Stremple/BKLYNER)

When speaking at a town hall meeting in the area this September, Mayor De Blasio promised that homeowners would not need to pay, and that the upgrade would be done in the spring—along with all other rebuilding in the area.

The deadline is Friday, November 3—tomorrow—so residents wishing to make comments on the proposal are encouraged to do right away, using this form.
