Reach Your Goals With Crunch Flatbush and dotFIT
I don’t know about you, but I tend to walk away from my annual physical with a particularly insistent refrain echoing in my mind: “changes in diet and exercise.” I’ve always struggled with my weight and fitness, and what makes that struggle doubly frustrating is the fact that the fix is, in theory, so simple: Eat less. Exercise more. However, I tend to forget the “and” — concentrating only on one or the other.
I know I’m not a unique case, which is why Crunch Fitness partners with the nutrition program dotFIT to offer members a more complete slate of offerings to help them reach their health and fitness goals. And with the opening of a new Crunch Fitness branch on Flatbush Avenue near Beverley Road earlier this year, there are no more excuses.
I spoke with owner Assaf Gal to find out a little more.
“Our members are paying us to get a result, some kind of success you want to associate with gym membership. Maybe I want to be more comfortable when I put my socks on or playing with my grandkids. And that can’t be accomplished just in the gym. The gym is a relatively small part of it in the grand scheme of things.”
Gal pointed out that we spend most of our time outside the gym and need a way to marry that time with the rest of our lives.
So every Crunch member (the base rate is just $9.95/month) gets set up on dotFIT so they can track their food intake and exercise patterns throughout the day. When you join, you get an initial personal training session (regular sessions are $40/half hour), during which the trainer will set you up on dotFIT, making sure you know how to enter data into your log.
“It’s one more layer of accountability,” says Gal.
Along with dotFIT, members get access to a great gym. I visited the brand-new 18,600-square-foot space and checked out the light-filled facility. They’ve got four floors of free weights, cardio machines, class space, full-service locker rooms, and HydroMassage® beds.
Kayla, one of Gal’s very cheerful employees who gave me a tour, mentioned that one of the more popular section is the Power Half-Hour fitness circuit, which can help you move through a complete body workout quickly if you’re pressed for time. Their personal trainers can also help set you up with an initial fitness plan in that first session.
Gal is clearly proud of what he’s able to offer his members. He says his and Crunch’s goal is “to deliver the most value to members, and the dotFIT partnership has allowed that to happen.”
