BKLYNER received a tip from a reader that the former Market Fresh located at 238 Prospect Park West will soon be replaced by a new grocery store—Prospect Market.

Alex Alomeri, a manager at Prospect Market, confirmed the news today, stating that he hopes the new shop will open for business by the end of May. He and his team are currently cleaning up the space and stocking up the shelves with just-delivered inventory.

Prospect Market will offer organic produce, a new deli department, and an expanded cheese selection, Alomeri says. He adds that the price points will be similar to Prospect Market’s other location which has been at 5th Avenue and Union Street for 40 years.

“We’re trying to help the neighborhood,” he says.

Considering the imminent closing of the Key Foods at 120 5th Avenue, the replacement of one grocery store with another is good news for the area as the number of affordable supermarket options has been shrinking over the years.
