Prospect Ave ‘R’ Subway Station Reopens Following 5-Month Revamp

PARK SLOPE – After being closed for five months, the revamped Prospect Ave “R” subway station reopened on Thursday.

Among some of the new upgrades the station received are interior and exterior countdown clocks, LED lighting, Wi-Fi, and glass barriers by the turnstiles, AM New York reports, who also notes that the station reopened one month earlier than planned.

The redesigned station also features a colorful mosaic designed by Brooklyn artist Monika Bravo, installed as part of the MTA Arts & Design program, according to Curbed, who adds that further enhancements to the station include USB ports, digital display boards, as well as new seating.

The Prospect Avenue station was one of 31 stations selected by the MTA to be refurbished and modernized as part of its Enhanced Station Initiative. Two other Brooklyn “R” line stations, 53rd Street (Sunset Park) and Bay Ridge Ave, recently reopened following a series of similar improvements.
