Looking for something fun to do this weekend? There’s plenty going on in Park Slope! It’s the last full weekend of Celebrate Brooklyn! So if you haven’t gotten out there yet this year, now’s the time to go! We also have lectures about nomads and cannibals, as well as MCA Day and the Awesome Aughts!

Anna Badkhen in conversation with Christopher Beha
When: Thursday, August 6, 7pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: Journalist and author Anna Badkhen joined a family of  Fulani herders in their annual migration across Mali’s Sahel grassland. In Walking with Abel, she describes the everyday life of the nomads, from cooking over a manure fire and eating millet and fish paste to sleeping under a plastic tarp, and considers the beauty and wisdom of the group’s unfettered way of life..

Celebrate Brooklyn!: Leesaar The Company
When: Thursday, August 6, 8pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West at 9th Street
What: If a “gutsy, brainy modern-dance troupe” sounds like your ideal evening, don’t miss Lee Sher and Saar Harari’s Leesaar tonight at the Prospect Park bandshell. Joining Leesaar are Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, and guest dancers from the Batsheva Dance Company.

Watch the GOP Debate
When: Thursday, August 6, 8:30pm
Where: Pacific Standard, 82 4th Avenue
What: Want to watch the the first Republican presidential candidate debate of the season tonight but don’t have cable? Pacific Standard will have it on so you can catch all the crazy Trump comments in real time.

Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco
When: Friday, August 7, 7:30pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: Groove is definitely in the heart at Friday’s Dreamland Roller Disco, where this week it’s all about pop hits from the ’90s. Note that admission is restricted to guests ages 21 and older. For more information, or to buy tickets in advance, visit the Dreamland website.
How much: $18 (includes admission and skate rental).

Celebrate Brooklyn!: Third World
When: Friday, August 7, 7:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West at 9th Street
What: Despite mourning the death of their leader, William “Bunny Rugs” Clarke, Jamaican group Third World has “risen like the phoenix from the ashes,” delivering their fusion of reggae, pop, and soul just as they have for the past 40 years. Joining them at the Bandshell Friday night will be “the golden voice of Mali,” Awa Sangho.

Awesome Aughts: Music of the Early 2000s
When: Friday, August 7, 11pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Are you sick of the 90s nostalgia? Would you rather celebrate the music of the 21st century. Union Hall is bringing your favorite tracks from the early 2000s and more back for the summer of 2015! Join Steve Reynolds for Awesome Aughts, a night of the best pop, rock, R & B, hip-hop and dance music from the early 2000s.

MCA Day 2015: Celebrating the Life of Adam Yauch
When: Saturday, August 8, 12pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Fans of Adam Yauch are invited to pay tribute to his legacy and celebrate his life. Grab your favorite Beastie shirt, lace up the shelltoes, and get ready to spread some gratitude.There will be music to vibe to, art to view, good folks to chill with, and of course some fresh new surprises to bring you joy. Plus, they’ll have that original big ol’ Boombox and a fresh grip of batteries.

Celebrate Brooklyn!: tUnE-yArDs
When: Saturday, August 8, 7:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West at 9th Street
What: The Celebrate Brooklyn! free concerts go out with a bang on Saturday night, when tUnE-yArDs bring their “songs that sound like playgrounds full of street kids ricocheting off each other like bumper cars” to the stage. Don’t miss it!

NYC Safe Disposal
When: Sunday, August 9, 10am-4pm
Where: Park Circle (Corner of Parkside Ave & Prospect Park SW), Prospect Park
What: Have some old electronics, paint cans, or other harmful household products that you need to get rid of? The Department of Sanitation is collecting materials this Sunday at Park Circle. Note that cars enter along Parkside Ave from Ocean Ave and Lincoln Rd. For more information, visit the DSNY website.

Forgotten NY Park Slope Walking Tour
When: Sunday, August 9, 10am
Where: 4th Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets
What: Go on a historic walking tour on Sunday, August 9th with Forgotten NY‘s Kevin Walsh and explore the wonderful history and architecture of the neighborhood, including a Second Empire music school and a Revolutionary War burial site.

Man Eater: The Life and Legend of an American Cannibal” Illustrated Lecture and Book Party with Harold Schecter
When: Sunday, August 9, 8pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue
What: In the winter of 1873, a small band of prospectors lost their way in the frozen wilderness of the Colorado Rockies. Months later, when the snow finally melted, only one of them emerged. His name was Alfred G. Packer, though he would soon become infamous throughout the country under a different name: “the Man-Eater.” In this lecture Harold Schecter will unfold the story of a legendary crimea gripping tale of unspeakable suffering, the desperate struggle for survival, and the fight to uncover the truth.
