After only one year, the Gala Fresh Farms at 3100 Ocean Avenue in Sheepshead Bay is re-branding as a new supermarket, according to store employees.

The store was sold to another company and the shift will happen around mid-next week, a store employee told BKLYNER. But it’s still unclear which supermarket is swooping in to take its place.

The store will remain open and continue restocking the shelves during the turnover, said employees. In addition, most of the staff is going to stay on.

In the meantime, there is a store-wide 30 percent off sale and BKLYNER readers report that the shelves are emptying out.

The address has seen an array of rotating grocery stores in the last few years.

Waldbaum’s, the longtime neighborhood grocer at 3100 Ocean Avenue, closed its doors in November 2015 during the bankruptcy saga of its parent company, A&P. The location was auctioned off to Compare Foods, which replaced Waldbaum’s with a new ‘upscale’ grocery chain called Gala Fresh Farms.

After much anticipation, Gala Fresh Farms, the ‘upscale’ grocery, opened just last year in March 2016, we reported.

The employee we spoke with — nor anyone on site at the time — knew the reason yet for the turnover, but we will continue to follow the story as it progresses.

What changes do you hope to see for the upcoming neighborhood supermarket?
