New Hotels Coming To Coney Island And Gowanus
CONEY ISLAND/GOWANUS – A new 194-room, seven-story hotel (aka homeless shelter?) is planned for 2201 Neptune Avenue in Coney Island.
Permits were recently filed with the Department of Buildings for the project, The Real Deal reports. SWA Architects will design the 81,500-square-foot hotel which will feature an additional 14,000 square feet dedicated to community space, according to New York Yimby.
The hotel will be situated beside Coney Island Creek, offering guests views of Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Yimby says. Along with underground parking for 26 cars, amenities will include conference rooms, laundry, and child care.
A new 33-room boutique hotel is slated to open in Gowanus at the end of this year.
Baltic Huis (Dutch for “house”) will be located at 489 Baltic Street and will feature industrial design elements—a nod to the neighborhood’s past, according to Travel + Leisure, combined with modern technology, such as solar-powered lights and hot water, as well as smart phones and smart home devices in each guest-room.
The hotel will feature a coffee shop, which will also offer co-working space, and a back garden where community garden parties and cookouts will be hosted.
Baltic Huis is part of Greenwich Street Equities which also owns the nearby Union Hotel (611 Degraw Street) and the Gowanus Inn & Yard (651 Union Street).
