MOSQUITO ALERT: West Nile Virus Detected In Local Mosquitos

NY1 reported last night that West Nile Virus has been found in several Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Bath Beach, Dyker Heights and Gravesend.

From NY1:

While there are no reported human cases, the virus was found in mosquitoes in Bath Beach, Dyker Heights, Gravesend, Greenwood Heights, Marine Park and Windsor Terrace.

The Department of Health is advising residents to take precautions, such as wearing long pants, dumping out or reporting standing water and repairing window screens, in order to avoid mosquito bites.

Remember, mosquitoes breed in standing water.

To report any standing water, please call Councilman Vincent Gentile’s office at 718 748-5200.

The DOH website also carries tips for physicians, as well as a schedule of pesticide spraying used to combat the winged menace.
