[UPDATE] Police Identify Man Found Dead Outside Gowanus Houses

[UPDATED: Thursday, October 12 at 1pm] The NYPD has released the identity of the 19-year-old man whose body they found outside of the Gowanus Houses early this morning.

The victim, Ramon Ortiz, was a resident of the Gowanus Houses and lived around the corner from where his body was discovered.

GOWANUS – The NYPD is investigating the death of a 19-year-old man whose body was discovered outside the Gowanus Houses early Thursday morning.

Police say they responded to a call regarding a shooting at Baltic and Bond Streets at approximately 3:50am this morning. When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest behind 218 Bond Street.

EMS transported the victim to Brooklyn Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet released the victim’s identity.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

This incident occurs nearly three weeks after two men were shot while sitting inside a car parked on Baltic Street near the Gowanus Houses. Both victims survived that incident, according to DNA Info.
