Luxury Senior Housing Planned For Former Jehovah’s Witnesses Site
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS – A Florida-based private equity firm has purchased 21 Clark Street (between Hicks & Willow Streets) from the Jehovah’s Witnesses and plans to convert the building into a luxury senior residence.
Kayne Anderson Real Estate Advisors purchased the 16-story property in Brooklyn Heights for a reported $200 million, Curbed reports. The building, built in 1928, was formerly the Leverich Towers Hotel, according to Brownstoner.
Plans for the 75,000-square-foot property include 300 apartments, multiple dining areas, a swimming pool, and spa, Curbed reports. Rents will reportedly not be cheap, ranging from $7,000 to $10,000 a month, Brownstoner says. Those rates could potentially double if residents include assisted care services, Curbed notes.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses has been unloading its 36 properties in Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO, selling the Watchtower building located at 25-30 Columbia Heights last year for $340 million to developers CIM Group, Kushner Companies, and LIVWRK, and 107 Columbia Heights earlier this year for $87.5 million to Clipper Realty. The religious group is relocating to upstate New York.
