Levi Aron Has Personality Disorder, Says Psychiatrist, Sister Died In Mental Institution
According to a story in yesterday’s Daily News, Levi Aron, the so-called ‘Butcher of Brooklyn,’ accused of brutally murdering and dismembering 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky, “shows signs of the schizophrenia that landed his sister in a mental institution.”
The Associated Press reported Wednesday that a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation says Aron often appears confused and emotionless- except when asked about his arrest. Among the mental health professionals’ conclusions was that Aron has a ‘personality disorder.’

“His mood is neutral, practically blank,” the report declared. “The only time he seems to show an emotional response is when he is asked difficult questions about his incarceration.”
According to AP, the psychiatric report also mentioned that Aron’s sister died in a mental hospital while undergoing treatment for schizophrenia.
The accused killer’s lawyer Pierre Bazile says that a psychiatrist recommended Aron remain at Bellevue Hospital, where he was moved from last weekend. Aron is currently being held at Rikers Island.
Bazile also says a court psychologist diagnosed his client with “an unspecified personality disorder.”
Getting these details of the report into the New York media may potentially help Aron’s defense team’s public perception, especially among potential jurors.
“We’re building on that to see if we have a viable insanity defense,” Bazile added. “We’ll have him examined by our own psychiatrist.”
According to the psychiatric exam, Aron said he began hearing voices about a year ago.
“He admitted to us that he began to hear a voice talking to him approximately one year ago, but cannot make out what it says,” the report indicated. “He says he was too embarrassed to mention it to anyone.”
