GREENWOOD HEIGHTS – A corner gas station will give way to eight stories of residential development along 4th Avenue, as permits are filed and renderings revealed for a new Greenwood Heights apartment building.

Just a few blocks from both Green-Wood Cemetery and the 36th Avenue D/N/R station, the development will bring 150 new apartments to the neighborhood, YIMBY reports.

Currently, the corner is occupied by a Mobil gas station, but the lot was sold to a development LLC in July for just shy of $20 million.

Rising 86 feet, the eight-story building will tower over the two- and three-story row homes that comprise the majority of the blocks around 4th Avenue between 32nd and 33rd Streets.

Nearby streets are filled with low-slung homes that will be dwarfed by the new eight-story apartment building (Screenshot via Google Maps)

The building will sport many of the usual amenities of modern luxury rentals: a rooftop terrace, recreation space, laundry facilities and bicycle storage. Underground, 50 parking spots will be available for residents.

As development and money push further into Greenwood Heights and Sunset Park, residents can expect large-scale residential buildings to follow.

Recently, a proposed mega-development in Sunset Park attracted attention for its bold plan to cover the N line with retail space and build a series of residential towers above.
