A giant tree cracked at the base and fell at 1801 Dorchester Road, at the corner of 18th Street, a little after 9:30pm Thursday night, the FDNY and neighbors told us.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the accident, according to the FDNY, but one parked car was damaged by the fall, neighbors told us.

By Friday morning, the once-towering tree had been reduced to a stump.

Numerous neighbors took to social media following the incident.
“My biggest fear with so many big, old trees in the area,” Susan Perez wrote on our Facebook post last night. “It’s not even windy or rainy.”

Another neighbor, MaryAnn Sekely, said on the same post that the tree fell right outside her building.
“I heard something that sounded like a clap of thunder,” MaryAnn wrote. “Wow! Wow! Wow!”
