Here Are The Five Best Taco Spots In Sunset Park
When it comes to Central American food — particularly Mexican cuisine — Sunset Park is something of a mecca for Brooklyn. Tacos, perhaps the most iconic of all Mexican dishes abound in our lovely neighborhood. The options are endless though, and choices are hard, so we’ve narrowed down the list to what we think are the top five taco joints in Sunset Park.
Here they are in no particular order:
Jalapeños (5714 5th Avenue)
(718) 439-5647
Open from 10am-12am Monday-Thursday and 10am-1am on weekends.
In the heart of the cuisine section of Sunset Park on 5th Avenue, Jalapeños whips up a sizzling fajita revered around the neighborhood, as well as cemitas that will make you think you’re in Mexico City while sitting comfortably in Sunset Park possibly sipping on their classic margarita. Jalapeños also makes a mean taco, of course.
Tacos Los Poblanos (5320 5th Avenue)
(347) 641-2654
Open from 6:30pm-1am everyday but Tuesday.
Also on 5th Avenue, Tacos Los Poblanos is known for their varied traditional Mexican meats, such as lengua (cow’s tongue), pastor (spit-roasted pork), and pig’s ear. This is the place to go for a cheap late night taco run. Their tacos pack a punch; each one is topped with diced onions, red beets, and a grilled green leek.
Tacos El Bronco (4324 4th Avenue)
(718) 788-2229
Open 10am-1am Sunday through Thursday, and 10am-5am Friday and Saturday
For you night owls, this is your best bet for getting a late night/early morning taco. El Bronco is known for their large-and-in-charge tacos with heaping portions of excellent guacamole. Also, at El Bronco you get a bang for your buck with taco prices ranging from $1.50-$4 per taco.
Taqueria El Mezcal (3910 4th Avenue)
(718) 768-2846
Open daily 11am-11pm
Chorizo, a Mexican delicacy, is taken to a new level at Taqueria El Mezcal. Those who eat there can’t help but sing their praises for the juicy and tender meat in their tacos. But when you order your tacos, make sure you also get a side of their exceptional salsa verde.
Maria’s Bistro Mexicano (886 5th Avenue)
(718) 438-1608
Open 11am-10:30pm Sunday through Thursday, and 11am-11:30pm Friday and Saturday

As always, food is highly personal and subjective, so if you feel like we missed a really important neighborhood fixture, feel free to give it a shout out in the comments.
