Garbage Truck That Struck And Killed Bicyclist In Greenpoint Identified

The garbage truck that struck and killed a 27-year-old bicyclist on Saturday has been identified, according to DNA Info.

The vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run incident belongs to a New Jersey Company called Action Carting, the article states. “Action Carting is cooperating fully with the investigation,” Ken Frydman, a spokesperson for the company said.

No arrests have been made in connection to the incident yet, according to police.

At approximately 12:30am on Saturday, July 22, Neftaly Ramirez was killed by what was believed to be a private garbage truck while bicycling on Franklin Street near Noble Street in Greenpoint, officials said.

According to the NYPD, Ramirez was riding on Franklin Street when the vehicle, traveling south on Franklin, struck him. The green garbage truck with white and yellow writing, did not remain at the scene.

On Tuesday, July 25, elected officials and safety advocates held a press conference to demand safer streets and justice against criminal drivers following this deadly incident and another that occurred on Sunday in Gravesend.

An East Village resident, Ramirez worked as a bar back at the Greenpoint restaurant Paulie G’s. He recently became engaged to be married, according to Gothamist.
