Friday Crime Blotter: Christmas Day Crime, Shots Exchanged on Kingsland Avenue & More

CYPRESS HILLS – Last month, a verbal confrontation ended in a shooting during the early hours at a Dominican restaurant in Cypress Hills.

Around 4:15 am on Monday, November 26, police said the 18-year-old victim got into a verbal altercation with the unidentified male suspect at El Gran Mar de Plata restaurant at 3175 Fulton Street, near Logan Street.

When the fight escalated, the suspect drew a gun and fired once, striking his victim in the left thigh, police said. The shooter fled and responding EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition.

BRIGHTON BEACH – Cops are on the lookout for the grinch who stole a laptop in Brighton Beach on Christmas Day.

The burglary took place around 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 25, at a home healthcare center at 3044 Coney Island Avenue, police said. The suspect entered the facility through an unlocked door, grabbed a laptop and fled.

CONEY ISLAND – Maybe an hour earlier, a knife-wielding man attempted to rob a deli on Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island and assaulted an employee in the process, police say.

The Christmas robbery took place at 4:20 pm when the suspect entered Beach Deli at 3204 Mermaid Avenue, pulled a knife and demanded cash from the employee behind the counter, police said. The attempted robbery quickly went out of control when the suspect punched a second employee multiple times, then fled the establishment without any cash.

CONEY ISLAND – Police also think they now know who is behind the robbery and assault of an 88-year-old woman in Coney Island on Christmas morning.

Marc Malone, 50, is wanted in connection with the assault, police announced.

Around 6:45 am on Tuesday, December 25, the suspect entered the victim’s apartment, near Surf Avenue and West 25th Street, through an unsecured door, police said. The burglar then sat the elderly woman down on the bed while he rummaged through her things.

When the woman tried to stand up, the suspect punched her in the face, said police. She was able to activate her medical alert bracelet, but when the burglar noticed, he punched her again, then fled the apartment.

The victim was treated for her injuries at NYC Health and Hospitals Coney Island, police said. A picture of Malone can be seen below:

GREENPOINT – On the night before Christmas, two suspects in Greenpoint exchanged gunfire instead of gifts, but it appears neither of them were hit.

The shooting took place just before 8:00 pm on Monday, December 24, police said, in front of 23 Kingsland Avenue, about a block away from the Cooper Park Houses. Several shots were fired, but no one was injured, police said.
