Friday Crime Blotter: Inappropriate Touching in a Sunset Park Church, A Brutal Robbery in Crown Heights & More

SUNSET PARK – Police are looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a case of forcible touching that happened within a Sunset Park church last week.

On Friday, August 10, around 7:45 pm, the suspect followed a victim into a church near 5th Avenue and 48th Street, said police. While talking to the victim, the suspect touched them over their pants multiple times, said police.

CROWN HEIGHTS – After a man brutally threw a woman to the ground in a robbery, police have released surveillance video of the crime in hopes of tracking down the suspect.

The attack happened near Bergen Street and Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights, just before midnight on Wednesday, August 8, said police. Grabbing the victim in a chokehold, the robber threw her to the ground behind a parked car, stealing her bag before fleeing down Bergen Street.

The victim suffered bruising and small cuts to her face, neck and body—she was treated by EMS. In the backpack, she lost her cell phone and an electronic tablet, said police.

BAY RIDGE – Police have additional pictures of the robber who knocked over a Bay Ridge bank wearing a surgical mask earlier this month.

The robbery took place on Sunday, August 5, around 1:40 pm, said police. The suspect entered the TD Bank at 9904 4th Avenue and 99th Street wearing a light blue surgical mask and made his way up to the teller.

The suspect passed a note demanding money, said police, and the teller complied, turning over an unspecified amount of cash. The robber fled, but can be seen in the surveillance photos below:


EAST NEW YORK – A non-fatal shooting has police looking for a man who shot a 21-year old in East New York late last month.

The shooting took place on Saturday, July 28, around 4:00 am, said police. An unidentified suspect fired multiple shots outside 533 Glenmore Avenue, near Van Siclen, hitting the victim in the back and neck.

The suspect fled the scene in a Nissan Altima, driving westbound on Glenmore. Responding EMS transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition, said police.

WILLIAMSBURG – Finally, police are looking for a suspect in a musical instrument heist in Williamsburg that took place in early July.

On Thursday, July 2, around 4:00 am, two suspects entered a residence near Broadway and Wythe through an open back window, police said. Once inside, they boosted musical instruments worth about $2,000.
