For my breakfast this morning, I decided to try Arbuz Cafe at 1706 Sheepshead Bay Rd.

The first thing I noticed was the teal paneled walls, and the thought of a frozen yogurt shop came to mind. They do have frozen yogurt and gelato that can come with an array of candy toppings, but I wasn’t about to dive into the sugary depths of Arbuz at 10am — I just wanted breakfast.

There are a few options for the most important meal of the day. You can have a Belgium waffle with all the sweet works, eggs with your choice of meats, vegetables, and cheese. They also do breakfast crepes, which is what I went for.

I ordered the crepe with an egg, ham, and swiss cheese, and a coffee. By the time I was finished making my coffee light and sweet, the crepe was finished — beautifully folded, with a side salad and a thick yellow balsamic dressing.

The crepe was delicious and light. I left, not full, but certainly not wanting.

While I was eating I enjoyed the rock n’ roll music on the radio — something not typical of cafes or restaurants these days. However, Stairway to Heaven came on and no one made any clear attempt to skip it or change the station — unacceptable.

Other than that, heavy hitters like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton’s Cream serenaded me during my breakfast and got me ready to rock the rest of the day. Excuse me while I kiss the sky.

At Arbuz, there is a strong, and free, wifi connection. You could sit here all day (8am-10pm on weekdays, 8am-11pm on weekends) and drink coffee and eat ice cream while surfing the web or working on a term paper (or this article).

If you have kids, bring them here, but be aware of the endless sugary temptations, the potential chocolate syrup stains on everything, and the eventual sugar crash with a half-eaten gelato in hand. The bright colors and candy will make their eyes light up like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
