WILLIAMSBURG – More than a week ago, a man was struck by an SUV on a Williamsburg street, suffering severe injuries. A few days later, he succumbed to his injuries and died, police confirmed.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Filiberto Coalt, 35, was crossing Lorimer Street mid-block on Thursday, October 18, north of Montrose, when he was struck by a northbound SUV around 9:40 pm, police said.

The driver remained on the scene as police arrived. EMS transported Coalt, who had suffered trauma to his body, to Woodhull Medical Center in critical condition. He was later transferred to Cornell Medical Center, police said.

Coalt, who lived a block away from the scene of the crash, held on through the weekend, but died from his injuries on Tuesday, October 23, police confirmed.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but so far, no arrests have been made.

Recently, an East Flatbush man was also killed by a car while crossing the street.
