Celebrate Spring With The Official Opening Of Prospect Park
It feels like we’ve been waiting half a year to fully enjoy Prospect Park again without some serious shivering, but the turning point is approaching at long last! This Saturday, April 5 is the park’s official Opening Day, where you and your family can enjoy some exciting springy events.
Festivities will begin at 10am with the Opening Day Parade, in which Little Leaguers meet at 7th Avenue and Carroll Street, march up to the Prospect Park Bandshell, and throw the first pitch of the season. Also at 10am, registered neighbors can volunteer to help the Prospect Park Alliance rake leaves, pick up litter, and edge pathways starting at the park’s 9th Street entrance.
Starting at 12pm, the Alliance will be present Leaf Litter Critters, another installment of theirPop-Up Audubon series, including a compost demonstration for kids and adults alike at 2pm, families helping to clean the park at 3pm, and bird watching for the family at 4pm, all at the orange tent near the Binnen Bridge.
Not quite your thing? At 1pm, neighbors are invited to help plant the season’s first crop of flax (and to play old-timey games) at the Lefferts Historic House, too.
Whether you plan to take part in organized events or are just heading over this weekend to lounge, enjoy your time in the 50-something degree outdoors–goodness knows, we’ve all earned it!
