Celebrate Spring With Opening Day Parade & Festivities
It feels like we’ve been waiting half a year to fully enjoy Prospect Park again without some serious shivering, but the turning point is approaching at long last! This Saturday, April 11 is Opening Day, where you and your family can enjoy some exciting springy events.
Festivities will begin at 10am with the Opening Day Parade, in which little leaguers meet at 7th Avenue and Carroll Street, march up 7th to 9th Street, and then on to the Prospect Park Bandshell, where they throw the first pitch of the season.
Spring Break activities continue on Saturday as well, so if you’re in the park to kick off the baseball and softball season, bring the kids to the Audubon Center between 1-5pm to enjoy fun, educational programs about animals and nature.
Not quite your thing? At 2pm, neighbors are invited to the Lefferts Historic House to get excited about spring by planting seeds in small pots that you can bring home to watch grow.
Interested in getting your little leaguers into some service for their neighborhood? At 1:30pm, the park is hosting another round of its Junior Volunteer Corps, aimed at getting families and elementary-aged groups to learn the value of helping out in the community. Sign up in advance here.
Whether you plan to take part in organized events or are just heading over this weekend to lounge, enjoy your time in the 50-something degree outdoors — goodness knows, we’ve all earned it!
