Celebrate Independent Bookstore Day With 3rd Annual Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl
Following on the heels of Record Store Day this past weekend, this Saturday (April 28) ushers in Independent Bookstore Day, an annual, one-day national celebration of indie booksellers across the country.
Locals can show their love and support for small businesses with the third annual Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl, a self-guided tour of more than 30 independent bookshops across the borough. There’s no wrong way to crawl, according to the website for the event which debuted in 2016—just get out and shop Brooklyn’s eclectic selection of indie bookstores.
All participating literary outlets have been compiled on the #BKBookCrawl2018 map. The event organizers request that book-lovers stop by at least three locations on the list. For a chance to win a prize at the end of the day, book crawlers are encouraged to share photos of their excursions on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the hashtag #BKBOOKCRAWL and tagging the appropriate store. Prizes can be picked up at the official Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl afterparty.
The afterparty is happening at Friends & Lovers (641 Classon Ave between Pacific & Dean) in Crown Heights from 5pm to 7pm. To attend, just bring a receipt dated April 28, 2018 from any of the Brooklyn indie bookstores you visited during the day. Entry includes one ticket for the Grand Prize raffle. Each additional receipt shown gets you another raffle ticket—increasing your chances of winning! The venue will offer drink specials for all Brooklyn Bookstore Crawl participants, local bookstore employees and authors.
