Police Hunt for Suspect After Rape in Brownsville Park

BROWNSVILLE – Police are searching for the man who raped a 20-year-old woman in a Brownsville park over the weekend.

Around 2:20 am on Saturday, December 1, the victim was near the intersection of Herzel Street and Dumont Avenue at Betsy Head Park when she was approached by the suspect, said police.

The man attempted to engage the victim in conversation before grabbing her by the arm and dragging her into the park, where he raped her, police said.

Afterward, the man stole the victim’s purse and fled northbound on Herzel Street. The victim was treated at a nearby hospital.

This is the second rape in a Brooklyn park in recent weeks, after an attack at Prospect Park in November.

Police have arrested and charged a suspect in that case, Mowngly Lucas, 28, of Queens, after releasing additional surveillance video.
