Briney Broken Heart: Pickle Shack To Close At The End Of February

“Kiss my pickle” goodbye.

The vegetarian gastropub Pickle Shack (256 4th Avenue) will be closing at the end of February.

The beloved Gowanus food and suds place opened in November 2013. The shack has been serving pickles, sandwiches, beer, and ale, much to the delight of even those who aren’t usually connoisseurs of all things vegetarian.

A Pickle Shack employee told us that they’ve been working hard to “keep the business afloat,” but it has been too much of a struggle as of late.

The place was opened by Brooklyn Brine owner Shamus Jones who began it by partnering with Delaware-based micro-brewery Dogfish Head (although the beer menu expanded to other companies).

When the place first opened, we loved trying the “delectable” Chanterelle Mushroom & Egg Sandwich. Others went for the fried pickles, which were cornmeal-crusted and served with a preserved-lemon aioli.

And some simply came for the ale and neighborhood pub feel.

You have about 10 days to get your fix — so enjoy it now. We appreciated the friendly, intimate hideaway we could duck into from the blare of 4th Avenue.
