Anti-Semitic Attack in Williamsburg Targets 11-Year-Old Boy
WILLIAMSBURG – What appears to be yet another anti-Semitic attack on a Jewish youth took place in Williamsburg over the weekend, following on the heels of a long string of hate crimes directed at the Jewish community across Brooklyn.
The attack occurred over the weekend, when a suspect ran up behind an 11-year-old Hasidic boy near Throop Avenue and Walton Street in the Broadway Triangle area, pushing the child to the ground, Yeshiva World News reported. The outlet also posted a video of the attack.
After a number of crimes in the last months against the Jewish community, ranging from anti-Semitic graffiti to a pipe thrown through a synagogue window and even physical attacks, this new incident immediately caught the attention of community leaders and elected officials.
City Councilmember Kalman Yeager, who represents the 44th District in Borough Park, took to Twitter to decry the “new normal” following the attack:
Currently, the NYPD is investigating the incident, though no arrests have been made.
