8th Avenue Hot Pot Stop! Four Unique Tastes

As the weather gets cooler, Sunset Park starts to sizzle!

Boasting a variety of hot pot eateries, 8th Avenue beckons visitors searching for the traditional Chinese cuisine. The meals can be daunting and even intimidating to first-timers, but locals quickly slurp the spicy concoctions with nary a blink. Servers hoist two boiling broths in a giant divided pot onto the table center.

On one side, bright red peppers taunt you as they dance in the bubbling brew. On the other side, a creamy broth offers a comforting rescue for those faint of heart. Adventurous diners prepare their soups with platters of raw ingredients like beef, fish, mushrooms and spinach.

So which neighborhood haunt has the best hot pot? A list of the late night eateries proves that each one is a little different. Let us know your favorite.

First stop, Mister HotPot.

Oh Mr. HotPot, bring me a dream...

Unlike the all-you-can-eat hot pots in the area, Mister HotPot offers an à la carte menu with seasonal fresh seafood and specialty items, like their tofu skin rolls and enoki mushroom bacon wraps. The cozy setting feels like an intimate nightclub, attracting young late-nighters, while techno music pumps through the air.

Priding themselves on being holiday-ready, the staff decorates for nearly every celebration on the calendar. Complimentary melon ice cream pops and Wrigley’s peppermint gum will sooth the palate, concluding the experience.

Little Lamb.

Mary had a Little Lamb...

Little Lamb serves the long-established and possibly the original Mongolian lamb hot pot. Twenty different flavors of herbs and spices stew in a broth for up to eight hours.

Lamb is the favorable protein because it’s the flavorful protein. Delicate in nature, the meat is best at absorbing each unique flavor, explains host Andy Bai. He also notes that they use live neighborhood seafood, “Did you see me come in with that red bag? It was full of live crabs and shellfish,” he exclaims. The quaint and quiet atmosphere welcomes small groups.
