Pizza lovers will be saddened to learn that a neighborhood staple will temporarily close its doors this week — though not for long!

Zio Nino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant (7203 18th Avenue), a no-frills spot famous for its rice balls and eggplant parm, recently changed ownership, and will close for 14 days as it undergoes renovations.

The eatery’s new owner Gafur Qoku — a Bensonhurst resident who previously owned an Italian restaurant in New Jersey — said he and his partner are revamping the menu and plan to install additional tables, though the name will remain the same.

“I like the people; I like the place,” said Qoku of why he decided to invest in the Bensonhurst food business.

The eatery’s homestyle Italian fare, along with its lack of pretension, was a major part of its appeal, so we hope that the new owners don’t change too much.

We will be sure to try Qoku’s pizza and let you know how it compares!
