Youth Summer Job Applications Open
Attention neighbors between the ages of 14 and 24! If you’re looking for a summer job, you can apply now for the city’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
“In the summer of 1973, I worked with the Two Bridges Neighborhood Council cleaning up an empty lot. That summer I earned $320, but more importantly, the job exposed me to the world of public service and taught me work ethic” said New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Commissioner Bill Chong upon announcing that applications for this summer’s job lottery are open.
Established in 1963, this is the largest summer youth employment initiative in the country, dispatching over 60,000 young people to work in parks and other government agencies, hospitals, summer camps, nonprofits, small businesses, law firms, museums, sports enterprises and retail.
“This year, we’ll connect even more youth from across the five boroughs to meaningful opportunity,” Mayor Bill de Blasio promises.
In addition to paid summer jobs, SYEP also offers participants workshops on job readiness, career exploration and financial literacy. In order to apply, the participant should complete an application by March 17th, 2017. Summer jobs are available for up to 6 weeks starting July 5 through August 19.
