Senior fitness alert!

Beginning this coming Monday, April 27, free yoga classes for older adults will be happening outside in South Oxford Park every Monday and Wednesday, for eight weeks.

The CityParks Seniors Fitness program is open to all local residents aged 60 and over and is sponsored by the City Parks Foundation and Airbnb. Programming is coming to all five boroughs, but the schedule for South Oxford Park is as follows:

  • Yoga: Mondays and Wednesdays, 11am at South Oxford Street and Atlantic Avenue

All equipment and instruction is provided free of charge. Sessions are one or two hours. All activities in this eight-week fitness program take place through June 19.

“Exercise is so important at all ages, but it is especially important for seniors who typically lead more sedentary lifestyles,” says Mike Silverman, director of sports at City Parks Foundation. “We’ve found that exercising even just once a week helps participants feel better mentally and emotionally. Seniors Fitness is a great opportunity for seniors to be social and meet new people in their neighborhoods, while getting outside and having some fun.”
