After two years of organizing, the Windsor Terrace Food Coop Board of Directors announced today it has begun negotiations on a potential site for the coop at Caton Avenue, just west of Coney Island Avenue. The spot is one block west of the B68 bus stop and two blocks east of the Fort Hamilton subway station.

“Representatives from the Board are meeting with the owner and believe the site has potential as the first home of the Windsor Terrace Food Coop,” members said in an email.

In order for the group to finalize negotiations, board members said they must have commitments from at least 100 people who will join the coop (which will serve both Kensington and Windsor Terrace) before 6pm on Monday, December 1. If you’re interested in doing so, you must fill out a form with your name, address, phone number, email, and the number of family members an their ages. You will need to submit a $100 membership fee. The membership funds will permit the board of directors to sign a lease and “undertake modest renovations necessary to begin operations in early 2015,” the group said in the same email.

To receive the membership form, you can email windsorterracefoodcoop@gmail.com or go to the coop’s website for more information.

If the target number of 100 people is not reached, the board said negotiations will be stopped and membership fees will be returned.

Being a founding member of the coop will:

  • Permit you to shop at the coop. Only members will be permitted to shop there.
  • Give you the right to participate in discussions and have a vote on decisions that the coop will have to make as it evolves.
  • Require that you share the work load with other coop members by working a couple hours a month.

You can send your membership form and $100 check made payable to Windsor Terrace Food Coop to: Windsor Terrace Food Coop, 147 Seeley Street, Brooklyn, NY 11218. Or, you can go to the Juice Box Wine Shop (1289 Prospect Avenue) and leave your check and application form there.
