Just  months after opening, the Windsor Terrace Food Co-op’s (825 Caton Avenue, between E. 8th Street and Coney Island Avenue) newly-elected board voted to significantly expand the co-op’s hours. Beginning Sunday, October 4, the food co-op, which debuted in March, will be open seven days a week.

The new hours will be:

  • Monday: 4-7pm
  • Tuesday: 4-7pm
  • Wednesday: 4-7pm
  • Thursday: 4-9pm
  • Friday: 4-7pm
  • Saturday: 10am-4pm
  • Sunday: 10am-4pm

The decision to open their doors for longer periods of time follows an increase in membership: the food co-op now has about 500 members, up from about 400 when they opened — and board members expect that number to rise to at least 750 in the coming months. You must be a member to shop there.

In order to expand their hours, the co-op is looking for people to volunteer additional time. To learn more about volunteering, you can email admin@windsorterracefoodcoop.com. For more information, see the complete rundown about the new changes here or  visit the co-op’s website.

For two and a half years, neighborhood volunteers worked to open the co-op after the Windsor Terrace Key Food closed in 2012, leaving residents with little access to grocery stores. Recently, that Key Food reopened at 589 Prospect Avenue, by 11th Avenue.

We’d love to hear what your experiences have been like at the new co-op, as well as the Key Food. Do you shop at both places, or do you like to stick with just one of them? Or perhaps you go to a different place entirely?
