Windsor Roast House Opens, Brings Neighbors Their Meat Fix

The first thing that you’ll notice is the aroma. And if you are a meat fan, you will feel right at home.

The Windsor Roast House (426A 7th Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets) officially opened last Saturday, September 5, after readying themselves throughout the summer.

Chef Angelo Loukas is cooking away, and doesn’t mind you sneaking a peek at what he’s up to. He was out in the open, and working on roasting pork when we checked in.

Manager Paul Boomhower can move smoothly from a discussion about menu preparations to fire codes. When asked about the menu, Boomhower described it as a “no-frills, from-scratch, grass-fed, buy-from-the-local-vendors type of experience.”

The decor and feel of the space fits his description rather well. The restaurant is tidy, casual, and welcoming.

“I’m a huge believer in Southern hospitality,” said Boomhower. “But we do it with a Brooklyn flare.”

The outdoor space has larger tables as well as a massive TV. Boomhower envisions the area being used to watch sporting events. They were gearing up for the Patriots/Steelers NFL opener on Thursday night.

Boomhower is looking forward to getting a feel for the new customers and neighborhood. And welcoming them in with open arms.

“The best food can be ruined by poor customer service,” he said. “We want people to feel at home here.”

When asked about some menu recommendations, he’s quick to bring up The Windsor Burger ($16). “It’s a combination of Angus beef, filet mignon, and brisket — and we think it’s going to be a favorite.”

Doug and Donaree Neville were in town from Utah to visit their son who lives around the corner. They both seemed pleased with their meals. Doug ordered the Signature Roast Pork Tenderloin Sandwich ($15). Donaree was cooing about her Brick Oven Baked Wings (five pieces for $8, 10 pieces for $14, or 20 pieces for $24).

“It’s the best thing I ever ordered without sauce,” she said.
