CONEY ISLAND – William A. Brown has been appointed as the new chief executive officer at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island.

Mr Brown comes to Brooklyn with 38 years of experience in the healthcare industry, and was most recently the Regional Executive providing oversight for all Baptist Health entities in Western Kentucky including Baptist Health Madisonville.

“Bill Brown was selected for this important role because of his success in filling many of the needs we have in Brooklyn,” said William T. Foley, senior vice president of hospitals at NYC Health + Hospitals. “We’re pleased that he is excited to build on so much of the positive work already underway at the only full-service hospital for the 900,000 residents in all of southern Brooklyn.”

Mr. Brown will work on aligning the hospital with the ongoing transformation of the entire public health system and building upon the hospital’s strengths.

At Baptist Health, which he joined in 2013, Mr. Brown served as West Region Executive, responsible for all their entities in Western Kentucky. He was also the President of Baptist Health Paducah, a 373-bed acute and skilled care facility.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island has served the Southern Brooklyn community since 1875. The hospital has 371-beds, more than 2,900 staff and serves 18,000 inpatients each year. An extensive ambulatory care program provides 300,000 outpatient primary care and specialty care visits annually. Its emergency room sees more than 72,000 visits every year.

HHC Coney Island has been recently recognized:

  • High performer in heart failure care and COPD care (U.S. News & World Report),
  • Stroke Gold Plus Award (American Heart Association and American Stroke Association),
  • Leader in LGBTQ Health Care Equality (Human Rights Campaign),
  • and first-in-New York City Gold certification for Safe Sleep (Cribs for Kids).

Mr. Brown holds an MBA degree from the Hagan Graduate School of Business Administration at Iona College and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Fordham University. He, in turn, has taught in various capacities at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and CUNY’s Lehman College.
