Will Boxing Foes Amir Khan And Bensonhurst’s Paulie Malignaggi Duke It Out Again?
Bensonhurst’s own Paulie Malignaggi, fresh off his World Boxing Association Welterweight Title victory in May, insists former foe Amir Khan can bounce back from his loss to underdog Danny Garcia on Saturday.
Malignaggi, who called the fight for BBC radio, explained,”It’s a tough loss and it’s going to sting and it’s going to hurt. You’re not a competitor if it doesn’t hurt. Amir Khan can come back, he’s 25-years old man. But it’s going to be on him and the people around him. They’ve got to be very supportive.”
Khan started the fight well but was knocked down by a left hook in the third. Two more knockdowns in the fourth round prompted the referee to stop the fight, resulting in a TKO victory for Green.
“He knew he couldn’t match handspeed with him, but he knew he could time him jumping in,” said Malignaggi.
Malignaggi was the International Boxing Federation Light-Welterweight Champion before losing to Khan on May 15, 2010, and is expected to headline the Barclays Center this October.
In the meantime, Malignaggi’s management team is working to find him an opponent for the October bout. British born Kell Brook was initially a front-runner for the match, but he is scheduled for a fight in the UK during that time. According to ESPN.com, it is possible we will see a Khan rematch or perhaps another Brooklyn-born fighter, Zab Judah.
