Where To Get A Free Tree This Spring
Nothing says springtime like new green shoots sprouting from the ground and leaves on trees. That’s why you should register to pick up a free tree at one of 18 locations in Brooklyn this March through mid-May!
Courtesy of the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) and the city’s MillionTreesNYC program, the tree giveaway includes popular tree varieties such as dogwoods, juneberries and peach trees — around 8,750 of them available for your yards, gardens, or commercial property.
Around our area, these are the following pickup times and dates:
- Sunday, March 22 from 11am-1pm at 2 Second Avenue at The Salt Lot
Hosted by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy
- Monday, April 20 from 3:30-5:30pm at Gil Hodges Community Garden at 534 Carroll Street
Hosted by PWC
If this will be your first time caring for a tree, a NYRP representative will give you helpful tips, which include:
- Keep trees properly watered and maintained, with access to clean air.
- Do not plant the tree along streets, in city parks, in containers, terraces, balconies, or on roofs.
A full list of giveaway sites can be found here, and registration is strongly advised, since only a limited number of trees will be available for walk-ins.
