This St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish Arts Center is once again spreading the word — quite literally — about Irish and Irish American authors during its annual Book Day.

They’ll be out on Tuesday, March 17 from 7am until around noon (or when the books run out) around NYC alongside local City Councilmembers to hand out about 10,000 books written by noted Irish and Irish American authors — think James Joyce, Colum McCann, Roddy Doyle — in an effort “to introduce and re-introduce New Yorkers to some of Ireland’s most celebrated writers.”

A free read for your commute might be worth going a little out of your way for — in our area, you can nab a novel from the IAC and Councilmember Carlos Menchaca outside the 36th Street stop, on the corner of 4th Avenue and 36th Street, and Councilmember Laurie Cumbo at the Atlantic subway terminal. See the complete list of locations where they’ll be handing out free books here.
