January 15 is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.  See below for a list of what is closed on Monday in observance of this federal holiday.

Government Offices, Parking, And Sanitation

All government offices are closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, including courts and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

There is no mail delivery today.

All NYC public schools are closed. Students return to school on Tuesday, January 16.

Alternate side parking regulations are suspended. However, parking meters and all other parking regulations will remain in effect.

There is garbage, recycling, and organics collection on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Place your items out according to your normal schedule.

Libraries

All Brooklyn Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, January 15.

Subways And Buses

The New York City subway will operate on a weekday schedule on Monday, January 15, with minor timing changes. Customers are advised to allow for additional travel time and to use Subway Time for live wait times or TripPlanner+ to plan their commutes accordingly.

New York City buses will also run on a weekday schedule with minor timing changes.  In addition, Brooklyn express routes will operate on a special schedule with minor adjustments in departure times.
