While much of the commercial landscape of 7th Avenue will be changing over the next year, possibly none moreso than the stretch between 1st and 2nd Streets — and one new opening will be a big part of that.

As work continues on 187 7th Avenue, the long-vacant building that is now being developed into multi-million-dollar condos, the owners are now marketing the retail space on the ground floor. Listed by New Street Realty Advisors, the space could either be two separate storefronts — both 850 square feet, though one would be off the main drag and it wouldn’t have a basement — or they could be leased together. No price is noted, and they’d prefer dry uses — so, we probably won’t be getting a new restaurant here. The listing says the spaces should be available in the first quarter of 2016.

The storefront immediately next door on 7th Avenue, where the Met used to be, will soon be home to a Chiptole. Further down the block, the former home of Sweet Melissa remains on the market — that’s another space where the landlords aren’t interested in a food business, and the rent there, to give some perspective on what this new place could be asking, is currently $14,000 per month.

So what do you think might work in this space/these spaces?
