What Will It Take For The City Fix That Pesky Sinkhole On Cropsey Ave? [Updated]
Getting a pothole fixed in this neighborhood is almost as difficult as getting a wasp’s nest removed.
This week News 12 Brooklyn caught on to that pesky sinkhole at the corner of Cropsey Avenue and Bay 19th Street that has become a mini landfill and continues to put neighbors at risk.
Residents say the city has neglected to fix the crater — which is filled with trash and is becoming an eyesore — even after a year of complaints and phone calls to 311.
“I called a few months ago, I would say early july and they took my information and nothing’s happened with it,” neighbor Anthony Scala told the outlet.
That problem has come up in many a Community Board 11 (CB 11) meeting, but somehow the sinkhole remains. We’ve reached out to CB 11 for details and will update this article as we know more. Meanwhile, check out News 12’s closeup of the crater here.
Update [12:21pm]: CB 11’s Marnee Elias-Pavia has informed us that as of this morning, repairs have been made around the catch basin.
She also offered some insight as to the delay.
“A complaint was not filed with the community board regarding the issue at this particular location,” said Elias-Pavia. “However, it has been my experience that the delay is in the process. When a complaint like this is called into 311, it is sent to the Department of Transportation. They respond and determine if it is their responsibility, if it is not, a Corrective Action Report is generated and sent to the Department of Environmental Protection. Then we must wait for them to respond to the location.”
