What To Do This Weekend: June 18-21
It’s officially summer this weekend and there are plenty of great activities happening in the neighborhood to enjoy the season: jam out to some 90s tunes, listen to the New York Philharmonic under the stars, and enjoy Make Music New York performances along 5th Avenue and the 7th Heaven Street fair on 7th Avenue. There’s something for everyone.

BOOKISH: Writers Talking
When: Thursday, June 18, 6-8pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Join Kensington novelist Amy Shearn as she hosts a brand new interview series at the Park Slope Library. This week, author Amy Sohn is on hand to talk about her new novel, The Actress, just released in paperback. Books will be available for purchase.

Father’s Day Celebration with Phillip Lopate
When: Thursday, June 18, 7pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: Celebrate the father in your life at this special Father’s Day book launch of Every Father’s Daughter, a collection of reflections by 24 women on the tender, loving, and complicated father-daughter relationship. With readings by Lily and Phillip Lopate, Bruce McPherson, Johanna Gohman, and Margaret McMullan.

Summer Fiction Record Release Show
When: Thursday, June 18, 8pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Local Bill Ricchini aka Summer Fiction celebrates the release of his second album Himalaya, full of 60′s-esque pop that NPR calls, “world-weary yet heartwarming summer pop that sounds good anytime of year.”

Whet Willy’s Short Wave Radio Show
When: Thursday, June 18, 8pm
Where: 261 Douglass St
What: This fundraiser for the Letter of Marque theater group includes an original radio show performance as well as live music from Rob Henke & The Washington Street Players, with burlesque performances after 10pm.
How much: $10 at the door.
New York Philharmonic Under The Stars
When: Friday, June 19, 6:30pm
Where: Long Meadow Ballfields, Prospect Park
What: Charles Dutoit — a conductor known and loved worldwide — will lead the orchestra in Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture; Saint-Saëns’s Violin Concerto No. 3, with Renaud Capuçon as the soloist; Stravinsky’s Petrushka (the 1911 version); and Ravel’s La Valse. The Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir will open the night.

The Shame Game
When: Friday, June 19, 7:30pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Besties Soo and Ginny divulge shameful secrets on stage and invite hilarious guest comics to do the same. Equal parts vulnerable, raucous and absurd, The Shame Game is guaranteed to make you feel a little more shameless.

Clarissa Dalloday
When: Saturday, June 20, 12pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Celebrate Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece with a marathon reading of Mrs. Dalloway. June 16 is commonly known as Bloomsday, a day in which people around the world commemorate the work of James Joyce. As a company devoted to promoting the words of women writers on its stage, Obie-winning theatre company Ripe Time is marking June 20 as a new landmark date for a celebration of Woolf, CLARISSA DALLODAY.

Drunk TED Talks presents: Graduating From the West-ern Canon
When: Saturday, June 20, 2pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Drunk TED Talks, the world’s premiere source of highly intelligent people talking about weird stuff they care deeply about while extremely drunk (with PowerPoints). A one-day conference about one of the most fascinating people alive: Kanye West. Learn about games, faces, and whether anyone’s theory effectively incorporates Lil Wayne’s verse on “Barry Bonds.”

Celebrate Brooklyn!: DanceBrazil
When: Saturday, June 20, 7:30pm
Where: Bandshell, Prospect Park at the 9th Street/Prospect Park West entrance
What: The dancers in DanceBrazil fuse contemporary movement with the dance/martial arts form of capoeira. The company formed after evolving from grass-roots workshops at the Clark Center for the Arts in NYC in 1977.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
Crazy Since Da 90s
When: Saturday, June 20, 10pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Itching to relive the 90s? This awesome decade spawned some of the best hip hop, R&B, house, and alternative music ever created so Union Hall is giving it a proper bow down like a good party should. So come crash our house party and sip on some gin & juice ($7 special all night).
How much: Free with RSVP, $5 after 11pm.
Make Music New York
When: Sunday, June 21, 10am-10pm
Where: Various locations
What: From 10am to 10pm, musicians of all ages and musical styles perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and gardens. From high school bands to marquee names, Make Music New York is open to anyone who wants to take part and free to all. 5th Avenue is the place to be in Park Slope with a number of performances all along the avenue.

7th Heaven Street Fair
When: Sunday, June 21, 12pm-6pm
Where: 7th Avenue, from Flatbush Avenue to 18th Street
What: Join local merchants for live music, food, rides, art, crafts, antiques and more along 7th Avenue.
