West Nile Virus Found In Greenwood Heights Mosquitos

West-Nile-Map

We’re at the height of mosquito season here in NYC, and according to a new map from the Department of Health, mosquitos carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in the 11232 zip code.

Of course, there’s no reason to panic, but it is a good idea to take a few mosquito precautions, and the DOH offers some tips on their website to help prevent your exposure to West Nile.

Use repellents that contain DEET, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, IR3535, or Picaridin and ALWAYS follow label instructions.
If outside from dusk to dawn, wear protective clothing if possible, such as loose-fitting pants, long-sleeved shirts, and socks.
Make sure that your doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Fix or replace screens that have tears or holes.
Eliminate any standing water that collects on your property.
Remind or help neighbors to eliminate standing water on their properties.
Call 311 to report standing water
