Wepa La Arepa, New Restaurant From Bogota Owners, To Replace Now-Closed Voodoo Lounge
Now Closed: Voodoo Lounge, 138 5th Ave

Voodoo Lounge, the bar at 138 5th Avenue between Douglass and Baltic Streets, quietly closed recently, and it looks like the entire space has been emptied out. But it may not be empty for too long, as the owners of Bogota Latin Bistro (141 5th Avenue) have plans to open a second restaurant just down the street from their first.

This new venture, called Wepa la Arepa, has applied for a liquor license, and though co-owner Farid Ali Lancheros wasn’t able to provide any details about what we can expect, if it’s anything like Bogota, we’re looking forward to it.

Bogota Latin Bistro was recently recognized by the Restaurant Opportunities Center-NY for taking High Road Labor Practices, because they offer their employees health insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and other benefits. And while they’re not yet hiring for Wepa la Arepa, they do have an opening because of the expansion — if you’re looking for a position as an executive chef, check out this job listing.
