This Weekend's Open House Picks

We’ve rounded up some of the more interesting open houses happening in and around our neighborhood this Sunday. Any thoughts on these places?

1717 E. 18th Street, #6A
List Price: $279,000
Size: Two bedrooms, one bathroom
Details: Yes, we’re cheating a bit with this one – this is near the Kings Highway subway station, but the owner, who’s moving because her family is growing (and who reads Ditmas Park Corner – bonus points!) noted in an email to us that the neighborhood is a 15-minute bike ride away from our neighborhood and is a good place for people who “love Ditmas Park but can’t quite afford to live there.” The apartment is huge, the building is in good condition, and it’s two blocks from the B/Q subway station at Kings Highway (which means you’re about 15 minutes from the Cortelyou subway stop). There appears to be  a lot of natural light, we’re loving the yellow kitchen walls (though, hey, you’re just a paint job away if that’s not your style), and there’s an indoor garage.
Open House: Sunday, November 23, 12-1:30

40 Clarkson Avenue #6L
List Price: $319,000
Size: One bedroom, one bathroom
Details: Located a skip away from Prospect Park, this top floor apartment in a pre-war building seems pretty adorable – you’d get lots of sunlight, an open kitchen design, and new appliances and cabinets. Plus, you’d be close to the Parkside Q subway station, as well as near the shopping and restaurants along Flatbush Avenue – and you’re not too far from the same on Church Avenue.
Open House: Sunday, November 23, 1:30-3pm

675 Rugby Road
List Price: $1,379,000
Size: Seven bedrooms, 3.5 bedrooms
Details: While this home’s interior seems a bit outdated, there’s a lot of potential – if you have $1.379 million to shell out. The home’s price tag recently dropped (do you think it will sell at the current price?), and for it you’d get 14 rooms, two kitchens, a den, an office, and a semi-finished basement. And, our favorite, you’d get two wood-burning fireplaces, as well as a front porch, a rear deck, a terrace, a security system, two staircases, and a two-car garage. You wouldn’t be too far from the Newkirk Plaza B/Q subway station, as well as the restaurants and shops around Newkirk, and you’ be a bike ride away from the dining and shopping along Cortelyou Road.
Open House: Sunday, November 23, 2:30-4pm

1440 Albemarle Road
List Price: $2,450,000
Size: Eight bedrooms, six bathrooms
Details: Oh my. Where do we begin with this Colonial Revival-style house that was built in 1901? Eighteen rooms. Eight gas and wood-burning fireplaces (that have their original ornate mantels and  decorate dental and ornate moldings), a two-story front porch, stained glass windows throughout, a dining room where you could basically have a dinner party for every single person you know, a spiral staircase with an original stained glass skylight. You’d have a master “wing” that seems bigger than our apartment, with a large bedroom, a dressing room with original built-in cabinetry, a large original bathroom with a pedestal sink and claw-foot tub, and indoor and outdoor porches. And that doesn’t even begin to get into the fact that you have SEVEN OTHER BEDROOMS. Plus, you have a full basement. What do you all think of the hefty $2.45 million price tag? Will it sell?
