Weekend Events Round-Up: What To Do This Weekend

The weekend is finally upon us, and there is a lot going on. Here’s a list of things to do over the next couple of days, before everyone has to go back to work:

40th Annual Brighton Jubilee
When: Sunday, August 28. 10am-6pm.
Where: Brighton Beach Avenue, and bottom of Coney Island Avenue.
What: A Brooklyn tradition! With music, activities, food, and local vendors of all types, this festival is sure to be fun for the whole family. It is run by the Brighton Neighborhood Association, a non-for-profit organization, and will help fund the group’s many activities, such as restoration from Superstorm Sandy; senior, tenant, and social services; and immigration outreach.

Amped NY 2016
When: Saturday, August 27. 7pm-11pm
Where: Aboard the Sheryll Princess docked at Emmons Avenue and Ocean Avenue
What: This party on the water will have two floors of live music, food and drinks. DJ Spider, and other guest DJs will bring the tunes, you bring your dancing shoes. There will be a blend of new music, dance hall favorites, and Soca. Boarding begins at 6pm, and tickets range from $25-$35.

Nutritional and Emotional Wellness Club
When: Friday, August 26 4pm-6pm
Where: Sheepshead Bay Public Library, 2636 East 14 St.
What: Nutritionist Leona Sokolva is leading this seminar on how to properly combine foods to stay lean and healthy into old age. Attendees of this free event will learn how to improve their heart health, tone their body, increase flexibility, and relieve tension. Sokolva will also explain how eating healthy, and taking care of yourself physically, can translate into improved mental health.

Russian Literature Club
When: Saturday, August 27 12pm-4pm.
Where: Sheepshead Bay Public Library, 2636 East 14 St.
What: Support local Russian writers in this monthly literary club! Enthusiasts of Russian literature, and poetry are invited to this free event. This club’s goal is to unite in support of local immigrant writer and give them a place to be heard and appreciated.

Rock at the Beach: RobALou Roadhouse
When: Saturday, August 27, 8pm-midnight
Where: Coney Island USA’s Shooting Gallery/Art Annex, 1214 Surf Ave.
What: Rock out at this awesome rock n’ roll show with biker rock bands and rockabilly music. RobALou is headlining this powerful, motorcycle-revving rendition of American rock music. There will also be performances by The Hipp Pipps and The Dirty Stayouts. Tickets are $15.

Sports Illustrated Summer of Swim Fan Festival, Summer of Swim Marquee Concert
When: Sunday, August 28 12pm-5pm for festival, 7pm for concert
Where: The festival will take place on the Coney Island boardwalk, and beach. The concert will be at the Ford Amphitheater.
What: Nothing says summer like the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. See your favorite models at Coney Island this weekend, where they will be holding meet and greets, signing autographs, and taking pictures with fans. The fan festival is free to the public. Cool down afterwards at the Ford Amphitheater with a headline performance by Action Bronson. You definitely don’t want to miss this.
